Las Vegas, New Mexico – 2012

It’s unfortunate that it was an overcast day and that there was not much of an interesting sky. Still, there is a lot to love here for ruins buffs, history nuts and romantics, not to mention lovers of decayed plywood and particle board. On the left side of this building is an ancient sign that says “Furnished Rooms.” That, combined with its location across the street from the now-abandoned train station, lead me to suppose that it was a rooming house, possibly with a bar or restaurant on the bottom floor. On the right outer wall is a Pepsi billboard, which I’ll probably post soon, from the era when Pepsi sang “You’ve got a lot to live and Pepsi’s got a lot to give.” What was that, the 60’s? Certainly no later than the 70’s. And, last but not least, you can see the side of the abandoned AMC dealer next door, another place I’ll eventually post. It’s as though time stopped here in the early 80’s, maybe earlier. Good bakery in this town. Local specialty is cinnamon bread, hot and fresh every day. Las Vegas, New Mexico – 2012.
